Ikon opens its new exhibitions on 21 March 2018, celebrating 20 years since the gallery doors were first opened to the public in Brindleyplace and here's it's story.

Originally a school, the building was turned into a gallery. The Grade 2 building was Funded by one of

the first National Lottery capital grants, turning the once large linked classrooms were turned into spacious galleries and since 1998 it has showcases artists’ work from all around the world, with over over 130,000 visitors every year, with free entry for all.

Ian Hyde, Deputy Director at Ikon said, “We are delighted to celebrate 20 years in Brindleyplace. As one of the very first tenants on the estate, Ikon Gallery has witnessed the changing environment, seeing new buildings rise up around our Grade II listed schoolhouse. Over the last twenty years, Ikon has welcomed millions of visitors to the gallery, worked with artists from all over the world and introduced contemporary art to generations of visitors. This year, Ikon is adding to it's collection of showcases with painters, sculptures, and improvised instillation, bringing in new art work. To find out more visit their website Ikon Gallery
