Police are currently investigating six thefts, which have taken place in the Handsworth Wood area of Birmingham against school children from a local secondary school.

A person in a silver car was spotted cruising down College road mugging students walking home alone.

On Friday 17th November Hamstead Hall Academy sent letter to parents informing them of the muggings happening on College road and to pick their children up until the matter is resolved.

A spokesperson from the school said that it’s a matter outside of school and is being led by the police, however the school has senior teachers waiting outside gates and occasionally patrol the area around the local community.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Police has said:

“Officers will be conducting patrols in the area and working with local schools to provide reassurance.”

A youth has been arrested and has been released pending further enquiries.
