A group of four teamed together to help bring a smile to two homeless people in Birmingham.
University student, Athina Marini,19, came to Birmingham from Greece to study Media and Communication and had known hairdressers Andrew Gregory and Stefano Constantinides for a year through Hellenic and Cypriot Societies of Birmingham, the society is for Birmingham citizens originally from Greece and Cyprus to be able to connect.
After being contacted by hairdressers they met up for coffee along with her friend Irene Tzianavaros, photographer and Business Management student, where they were asked to document on a project to help the homeless and raise awareness to the public.
Intrigued by the project Athina agreed to the videography of the project.
“I thought it was a project, a lot of people would see it and have in mind that we are all people who need to help and by doing something really small can help others, so I thought it was a good way to try and start helping change the world with such a small act.”
The project took the span of a week to both prepare and publish it, the act itself happened on the 9th October 2016, under the bridge on Dale End road, with aim of putting a smile on the faces of two strangers. Along with a new haircut the two homeless men received a grocery bag filled with food.
Despite being unsure to begin with Athina Marini, with her friends, went into the project with the goal of not just giving money to the homeless but helping them in another way, which left her feeling like a new person.
“We saw another point of view of the world, we put a smile on their faces and that was the best feeling I could have ever gotten, I think someone has to do it to know how it feels.”
The small act received 6,000 views on YouTube within a week.
