Waterhall at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is holding one of a series of four exhibitions for New Art West Midlands 2016 organised by Turning Point West Midlands.

Artworks by sixteen of the artists can be seen at the Waterhall. The pieces created by 43 previous students all graduated in the last three years from Birmingham City University and four others.

Five prize-winning artists, two from Birmingham City University Matt Parker and Kiriaki Hajilozis, who were each presented with £1,000 cash as part of New Art West Midlands 2016 to support their future careers.

Matt Parker said “It's always a privilege for me when anyone is interested in my work so to have an element of validation from the galleries in this exhibition and the potential exposure of my work to members of the public, is very pleasing.”

“I get to include a number of public art institutions within my credits which further validates my work as an artist and also, the more cynical but obvious one is that the £1,000 is massively appreciated and also came at a time where it will be useful going towards resources for my practice.” He added.

“This is an unrivalled opportunity for emerging artists to showcase their artwork – never seen before - to a large audience,” explains Lisa Beauchamp, Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art who brought together the New Art West Midlands 2016 exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.

Lisa adds: “Now in its fourth year, have found a place in Birmingham’s permanent collection and have also been acquired for the Arts Council Collection. For an artist, having your work in a public collection is a big deal.”

The exhibition is now open in the Waterhall at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery until Sunday 15th May 2016.
